History of Concord Country Club

Originally incorporated in 1929, Concord Country Club has a long and rich tradition of a dedicated membership that is committed to maintaining the highest standards of a superior golf and country club experience. Current members, plus families, enjoy a spectacular 18-hole course, a wide variety of golf leagues and events, casual dining, summer pool access, and full-service PGA Golf Professional services that combine to make Concord Country Club one of the finest private golf clubs in the region.

The club began as a 9-hole, private offshoot of the public Beaver Meadow Golf Course in 1929. The clubhouse was built in 1930, shortly after completion of the original 9 holes. Much of the original clubhouse remains as it was in 1930, with the striking fieldstone exterior, slate roof, and fieldstone fireplaces in the main room. While the original classic look of the clubhouse building has been retained, updated amenities, footprint expansions, and building improvements have kept pace with the expectations of a modern private golf club.

A score card from the mid-1930's shows a total yardage of 3070 on a par 35 for the original 9 holes. In 1973, the course added nine more holes, making it what we consider the “Best 18 holes in New Hampshire." The next serious course improvement came in the mid-1980's with a full irrigation system installation. Golf innovations continue today with the 2022/2023 construction of a short game practice area. It includes three greens, greenside bunkers, and extensive fairway and rough, allowing for uphill and downhill shots on actual course conditions.

Concord Country Club also has a long history of an active membership, with membership growing steadily through the years. The 1939 annual report lists 196 members. Course improvements and membership drives in the 1980's helped fill the roster to its current limit of 355 members. A waiting list for new members came into existence in the 1990's and has been successful in keeping membership at capacity.

Golf events and special outings dot the Club's history with costume tournaments and several city and statewide golf events. In the early 1980s the Club hosted a professional event, The NH Golf Classic. In 1983 and 1984 The NH Golf Classic brought PGA stars of that era such as Chi Chi Rodriguez, Peter Kostis, and Bob Tway to play at Concord.

Golf leagues have been a vital part of Concord Country Club through the years. A men’s Thursday twilight league has a long history and the Women’s league has been playing since the mid-1930's. A Friday evening Couples league has played since the 1970's. The Men’s leagues have grown in recent years, adding Tuesday twilight and Thursday 18-hole leagues.

Throughout its history, the course and facility renovations have maintained Concord Country Club’s reputation as one of the finest golf clubs in New Hampshire. And throughout this history, the Club has remained a private member-run organization dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of golf.
