Minutes of Closing Dinner
Tuesday, September 30, 2008
Social hour- 5:30 to 6:30 PM
Buffet dinner - 6:30 PM
27 members were present for the closing dinner, business meeting and awards presentation. Also present were Rich Thibeault, Club Professional and Stanley (Stan) Arnold, Club President.
WGA member Mary Boucher offered a golfers prayer.
WGA President Jean VerPlanck introduced herself and the WGA officers. She thanked Club Manager Colleen Cleveland and her staff for the great buffet and service.
Jean introduced Rich Thibeault and invited him to say a few words.
Rich thanked the Board and the many members who have volunteered at tournaments throughout the season.
Jean introduced Stan Arnold and invited him to speak to those present.
Stan spoke highly of his Board and specifically of Brenda Thomas and Jo Ann Feldman, both members of the WGA. He thinks that it was a successful season. He was happy to report that the Board met budget goals and will end the year with a slight profit. He discussed long-term repairs for wash-outs due to excessive rain this summer. He also addressed the problem at hole #15 and the short term fix planned. Stan praised the Club lounge staff and expressed his appreciation for them. Stan encourages ongoing communication and asks members to e.mail him with any concerns.
After thanking Rich and Stan for their valuable time, President VerPlanck opened the business meeting at 7:24 PM.
The secretary’s report was sent via e.mail prior to the meeting. Also copies were distributed at this meeting. A motion to accept the minutes in both e.mail and physical form was made, seconded and accepted.
The treasurer’s report was read and accepted. There is a cushion balance of $2,300 in the bank.
It was decided that the optional Hole-in-One Insurance would remain at $5.
If a hole-in-one is made after this meeting, the pay-out will match that of the distribution made to Linda Vincent and Gail LaPierre (both current hole-in-one recipients).
The treasurer’s report stands for audit.
Martha Hastings is a member of the Long Range Planning Committee and spoke briefly about their plans. Weaver (Architecture) has been acquired to assist because the project is too large for the 6-person committee to plan effectively. Martha reiterated that this is most definitely a long range plan.
Gail LaPierre and Linda Vincent were both awarded $105 for their “aces” from the Hole-in-one insurance account. They had both received $50 at the time of the hole-in-one.
The NHWGA news was given by Cynthia Ross. She reminded members about the meeting Saturday, October 4th at Intervale Country Club. The NHWGA application is on the web and is available to those with an index of 25.0 or lower.
The handbook was discussed. It was decided that the handbook will be printed as usual but the quantity will be reduced by 15 copies.
Clinics for the 2009 season will incorporate 1 rule per week. This rule will be taught to the Day League immediately before groups leave the practice green area, not on the range. The same rule will be taught to the Twilight League. Because the Twilight League players start at staggered times, the rule will be taught after golf but before dinner. Rich will work with this league on timing for these rules clinics.
The Twilight League and “Spring” Day League will play the “game of nines” for 2009.
President VerPlanck thanked those who chaired tournaments and those who have volunteered for tournaments next year.
Jo Ann Feldman, Chair for Rally for the Cure announced that the Rally tournament held at the CCC netted $4,270 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. There was discussion how to grow the tournament and get interested men involved. Jo Ann doesn’t want it to get so big that we have to rent a tent and carts therefore reducing the bottom line and dollars sent to the Foundation.
Carolyn Richmond asked that members help her throughout the winter months in identifying those members needing her help as the Sunshine Girl. A discussion ensued regarding gifts of flowers versus dinners. It was decided, by the majority, that dinners were the best gift.
Lu Shelton spoke regarding Pat Stefanides, who is gravely ill. She spoke of her move from Concord Hospital to the CRVNA Hospice House. She, along with 8 members of the WGA, visited with Pat and presented her with a plaque recognizing her 50 year membership at CCC.
It was communicated that Pat was overly pleased with the plaque and added “I never realized that I had so many friends.”
The meeting was adjourned at 8:09 PM.
Tournament winners were announced and prizes were awarded. Birdies and ringer prizes were awarded. A compete list follows the minutes.
Jean announced the monetary gratuities presented to Rich, Peter, Trevor and Colleen.
Respectfully,
Kathi Jordan, sec.
*Pat Stefanides passed away October 7th at Hospice House in Concord, NH.
