2008 Challenge Matches

In order to keep more players interested and involved in the post season we mix things up a bit. Rather than the standard single elimination format as we’ve used in the past this year’s Challenge Matches will involve every team for all four (4) matches.

The matches start Tuesday, August 5^th. If there are any rainouts in the first three weeks, these matches will not be made up. Only the final match, scheduled for August 26^th, will be made up in case of rain on the following Tuesday (September 2^nd).

Teams shall be seeded according to their point standings at the end of the regular season (July 29^th).

The pairings shall be determined by the final regular season standings. Teams shall be broken down into five (5) separate groupings. Teams 1-3 from the Widmer Division will play Teams 1-3 from the ESB Division round-robin style. Teams 4-6, 7-9, 10-12 and 13-17 will do the same. In the case of Teams 13-17 the match-ups will be modified in order to accommodate the schedule, each week one team may have to play against Par. After the third challenge match (August 19^th) teams shall be re-seeded according to their cumulative score. The match-ups for the Finals will be as follows: Team #1 Widmer vs. Team #1 ESB and so on. The team with the most total points shall be declared the champion. This, in conjunction with the regular season and the new challenge format, is the best way to determine our champion. If only the College Bowl Series could work this smoothly.

Scoring: At the beginning of the Challenge Matches each team’s total points from the regular season will be divided by 3 and rounded up to the nearest whole point. This is the team point total that will be carried entering the challenge matches. The scoring for the challenge matches shall be weighed more heavily than the regular season matches in order to potentially gather more teams into contention. Hole-by-hole scoring shall remain the same but the bonus points for winning the match shall be increased from two points to five. Show up points will remain the same, and substitutes will be allowed. All matches ending in a tie shall be played-off. The format will be for the teams to play the first hole (whether the match is played on the front or the back), best ball format. If a winner is not determined after playing the first hole, players shall then have a chip off from approximately 30 yards out in the fairway. Closest to the pin wins.

Championship Match: If there is a tie for first after the final matches. A champion will be determined by sudden-death playoff playing hole #1. If a tie still exists after the first hole the teams shall play the 18^th hole. The rotation will remain the same until a champion is determined. This is for the Championship outright only. All other ties will not be broken at season’s end, and any payoffs shall be split between the teams. For example, if two teams tie for fourth they will split fourth and fifth money equally.

* Seeds shall be determined by the standings after the August 19^th matches have been played or, in case of a rain out on that date, the last matches played prior to the 26^th.



In determining the seeds, if there are any ties they shall be broken by the following methods.
